Illegal miners will be exposed – Kweku Baako
The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Mr. Kweku Baako, has hinted of the release of an investigative documentary on illegal mining in the Country being prepared by his team.
According to Myjoyonline.com, he said the team, supported by Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI, has been gathering the materials for the past nine months and will be released once all the facts have been properly verified.
The documentary, he said, implicates chiefs, politicians and other public servants who are involved in the practice, adding that the details are shocking.
“Elements in all the parties, major parties who have ruled the country, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are involved at the Constituency, District and Regional levels,” he said.
Mr. Baako noted that Chiefs, security service personnel, the Forestry and Minerals Commission are all part of the rot.
He, however expressed confidence in the abilities of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to deal with the situation once the evidence is made public.
Popularly known as galamsey, the activities of illegal miners, have been a major cause of complain for residents in mining communities across the country.
These activities sometimes perpetuated by Chinese have caused great damage to many water bodies, including the Pra and Birim rivers. Many farmlands and other properties have been destroyed, striping residents off their means of livelihood.
Many attempts by various governments to curb the menace over the years have proved futile. The Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, says to successfully address the situation, there was the need to enforce laws on illegal mining.
